No. We will be open for 2018 memberships in November (2017)- January (2018) only.

*Due to the wonderful response and number of member signups last year, we anticipate that we may have to close registration for 2018 membership after hitting a certain number of signups.* Managing the number of members allows us to serve you best and continue to offer priority services, which is our primary goal. We suggest signing up early (November or December) in case we reach our maximum in January.

Thank you for understanding our need to limit the number of people we can serve PRO members and also continue to offer an occasional free service to the general public.

A regular priced, year-long PRO membership costs $185/year (That's about $15/month)*

Discounted memberships are offered to returning members and those who sign up during our limited early registration period.

*All Memberships must be paid for annually, in advance. We do not currently offer monthly payment plans. (Note: When you purchase through PayPal - there are options offered at the PayPal site to be billed later. Please look into those options to see if it might be right for you.)

Please scroll down to the bottom of this page to purchase your membership.

In accordance with our founding mission, RateYourStory.org will try to continue to offer a free service to writers who have not signed up to be paid members. However, we may have to limit our "free" day options in order to focus on our PRO members.

Non-members may sign up for a separate eNewsletter with writing tips and articles, site news, updates on our writing contest opportunities, invitations to online or in-person events, and limited offers for discounted professional critiques.

Free submissions must be sent ONLY on the designated Free Submission Day and must be in accordance with all guidelines on the Submissions Guideline page. We reserve the right to close submissions to non-members during times when our volume is extremely high and/or our judges are unavailable.

Please email us if you have any questions regarding the purchase of a PRO Membership or a SPEEDPASS. It's easier on all of us if you ask questions BEFORE making a purchase. We are happy to help!

  1. Hurray for RYS! Thank you so much for the valuable services you have been providing.. I love the new guidelines and will be on board by next week! Miranda, you've done a fantastic job and I'm looking forward to 2014 and your new set-up.:)

  2. Your free service is sooo wonderful, but I'm glad you're going to start having membership. I like that you can earn back some of your expenses by having members. I'll make my decision soon about which level to join in and thanks for promoting the art and craft of stories.

  3. I just signed up for the PRO membership. Thank you for offering this service!

  4. Go your membership, Catherine! And you've been added to our PRO email update list. Thank you!!

  5. Miranda, you know I am a HUGE fan of RYS and sing your praises whenever I can! I am extremely interested in trying to fit this new membership option into my very limited budget but have a number of questions so I will send you a private email. You may print any of my questions on your website if you think it will help any one else choose to join this wonderful group!

    Donna L Martin

  6. I appreciate all the options you came up with. I have a couple of questions.

How much to you anticipate contest entry fees will be?

If one has an agent, will the private newsletter be a good investment?

  7. Hi Pat - Contest entry fees are projected to be $5, but members will get one free entry, and PRO members will get two free entries.

The private newsletter will include some editor interviews (not all will be agents) as well as links to agent/editor wishlist comments, other writing contests, calls for submissions, and exclusive discounts on professional critiques for members only.

I can't make the decision for you, but hope this helps!

  8. I just learned of this service and want to be sure I understand. If you are a Basic or Pro member that means that you not only are able to submit the normal free manuscript once a month on the designated day but you also have an option to submit, depending on your plan, an additional 12 or 18 manuscripts during the year on any date. In theory you could submit all the additional 12 or 18 manuscripts in one month. (Not that I would do that....)

The free monthly submission dates are provided via the newsletter or in some other way.

And what your submissions receive are ratings only. Comments are only provided with a Speedpass, along with the fast turnaround.

Sounds like this is a good way to see if you are on track.

  9. Hi Vikk! Members are also guaranteed some comments with their ratings! Thanks for stopping by!

  10. Miranda, I thought your talk last night was terrific. I signed up immediately for the whole package. I am presently going to submit a picture book.
    Thank you, Elizabeth

  11. If you get the pro-membership service, would it be possible to use one of the 18 submissions as a means to have a query or cover letter critiqued? Thank you for all the hard work you do! Its been great to find RYS as a new writer to this awesome children's book writing world!

  12. Am I a day late to sign up for discount?!?!?!?!? Sitting here before daylight, whining! I procrastinate and lose!!!

  13. Thanks, everyone, for signing up. As of right now, we are closing membership so we can serve our current members better. We will let you know if we offer any more sign-up periods throughout the year, so check back and stay posted by signing up for our eNews. Happy New Year!

  14. heart broken I cannot sign up for a membership because I am too late but very happy I can at least use the free service through the year. I submitted the last manuscript I sent in which rated a 2 and will let you know how it goes. Thank you so much.

  15. Sorry I misssed the membership signup. I will try the speedpass.

  16. I thought I read this somewhere but now I can't find it. If I'm not a member and I purchase a speed pass, can I still do the free entry you offer of the first of the month?

  17. Hi Johnell! You don't need to buy a SPEEDPASS to submit a manuscript on May 1 for the Free Day (that's why it's called a 'free' day). Any other day, yes, you would need a Speedpass. If you've already bought a Speedpass, you can submit it right away - you don't have to wait - and you'll also get your rating back within 7 days (the 'free' ratings take 3-5 weeks!)

  18. Thanks. I guess my question would be if I submit one manuscript with a Speedpass option can I submit a different one of the open submission day?

  19. Yes, Johnell :) You may submit a different manuscript on the open day.

  20. Thank you. I need to rephrase my questions better and get rid of my auto-correct. :)

  21. Thank you for your free services, those are wonderful. Is there any news on 2016 memberships?

  22. Hi Rupali, so glad you have enjoyed RYS. We will be posting information about 2016 registrations in mid-November. Please watch the Facebook page and the website here. Thanks for asking

  23. Here it is March of 2016, and yet I want to say how much I appreciated my opportunity to enter the free submission day of this past February 1, 2016. I have received my rate, #4, and some VERY good comments about my non-fiction submission. It is causing me to rethink my whole POV and think I want to change it, having it come from my main characters angle. You are such a good group and if I'm still struggling by this November, I will hopefully be able to sign up for a membership. Thank you 'judge', whoever, you were, for a great 'eye' on my story. Hope you are all having a good year.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your feedback, Virginia. We'll be sure to let the judges know as well. Thanks again!

  24. I'm coming back! November 16th is marked on my calendar. Yay!

  25. I will be signing up November 16th! Excited for this opportunity!
